St. Nicholas Day – early December
The inspiration for Santa Claus and the celebration of Saint Nicholas and the love of gift giving.  

Immaculate Conception Day – 12/8 Most Catholics celebrate with a large dinner or feast and attending mass.  

Bodhi Day – also on 12/8
A Buddhist celebration when it is believed Siddartha Gautauma achieved total enlightenment. Celebrate with meditation!  

Feast Day of Our Lady Guadalupe – 12/12
Many travel to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in December to celebrate the tradition.  

Yule
Wiccans celebrate the winter solstice or the darkest day of the year. The Yule Festival honours the sun for days to grow longer (soon). This is where the Yule Log tradition comes from! The log represents the return of the sun!
Hanukkah
Jewish holiday part of the Jewish Festival of Lights. Celebrants light nine candles on a menorah to symbolise how one day’s worth of oil lasted for EIGHT days.

Christmas 12/25
Celebrates the Birth of Jesus and evolved into a family holiday with people of all faiths.  

Boxing Day – 12/26
Boxing day originally was for donations of gifts to the poor. The name comes from box for donations to the poor outside of churches.  

Kwanzaa
Unlike other December celebrations, Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday and not a religious one. There are 7 principles for Kwanzaa – unity, self-determination, collective responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.  

New Year’s Eve – 12/31
The celebration of the new year – some celebrate with gifts from Grandfather Frost!
